H.O.B., the British Immigrants’ Association, is a voluntary organisation established in the early 1950s by Mr. Sol Temkin, the Director of the Israel Office of the British Zionist Federation. The aims of H.O.B. are to help British immigrants from the UK and Ireland and further their integration by providing social, educational and cultural activities at branches throughout the country, as well as at national events.
The range of interesting activities includes:
- Social and cultural programmes around the country;
- Group activities such as monthly breakfasts in a café in Tel Aviv; wine- and food-tasting evenings; music evenings; poetry, literature and film evenings; lectures; quizzes and barbeques; and white elephant parties;
- Weekends and longer trips away;
- National events such as the Annual Convention/AGM, a Chol Hamoed Succot event, an annual supper quiz and a Yom Ha’atzmaut day trip;
- Projects to aid local communities.
Currently, H.O.B. has branches in Rehovot, Netanya and Tel Aviv.
An electronic newsletter is distributed to members at regular intervals. Click here for the latest edition (opens in new tab) or here for the archive of previous editions.
Some of the branches undertake various projects to aid their local communities.
The Tel Aviv branch is supplying school books to needy children at the commencement of the school year.
